We talk about the pursuit of God in three primary areas, introduced in our Foundations series: trusting Jesus, honoring God, and helping others. In every discipleship conversation we encourage you to apply what you’ve learned. One way to explore that is by using one of three challenge statements based on the Foundations truths. Here are a few examples:

“I want to trust Jesus by…”

For those who are ready to start a relationship with God, finish this statement with something like “…getting to my faith moment”, and then check out the guide by that title. For those who are already Christians, you might finish the statement with something like “…believing the truth I’ve learned today instead of just trusting my own opinion or feelings.”

“I want to honor God by…”

There are many ways to finish this statement, like “…committing to read the Bible more” or “…being more intentional about breaking an old habit” or “…meeting with a mentoring couple to strengthen my marrriage”. The point here is to get specific about how you will practically apply what you’ve learned.

“I want to help someone by…”

This statement is designed to help you mature in your faith by challenging you to look outward and help someone around you. Finish this statement with something like “…inviting them to church or small group this week” or “…sharing a link that will help them learn a biblical truth” or “…serving them in a practical way to show that I care.”

Remember, no one can pursue God for you. Challenge yourself regularly to live out your faith and go full circle in your pursuit of God.
