In any local church there are many teams that are important to its survival. But the most important team by far is the team of small group leaders and co-leaders who are equipped to help people pursue God. Here’s why:

Group leaders are pastors
In essence, small group leaders are like pastors of small churches. They share the truth in love with people around them. If they are equipped right, they are an extension of the pastoral staff at the local church.

Group leaders can care
If a small group is small enough, group leaders can have the time and energy to truly care about the people in their group. They can pray by name for the people who attend their mini church. They can visit at the hospital or bring over a meal. They can provide the personal touch pastor cannot provide in a larger church.

Group leaders can reproduce
If small group leaders are equipped right they can reproduce themselves much more easily than a pastor can. Raising up someone to lead a small group is much easier than training and equipping a pastor to lead a church. Healthy small groups can replicate, providing more opportunities for everyone to grow and mature.
